- שוּתָּףm. (= משותף; שָׁתַף) associate, partner. Tosef.Snh.VIII, 7 אדם … ש׳ היה עמווכ׳ Adam was the last created, in order that the heretics might not say, he was Gods associate in his work; Snh.38a. Y.B. Bath.III, 14a bot. ש׳ … כנוטע ברשית if a partner goes in and plants (a portion of the ground), he is considered as one who plants with the owners assent, i. e. he cannot claim the cultivated portion as his exclusive property on the ground of undisturbed possession; Bab. ib. 42b. Ib. ש׳ אין לו חזקה (not שותפות) a partner cannot claim possession (v. חֲזָקה). Y.Snh.I, 19b top ש׳ ליסטים כליסטים a robbers partner is considered a robber; a. fr.Pl. שוּתָּפִים, שוּתָּפִין. B.
